Joomla Vs. WordPress

Joomla is not the only content management system in the market. There is some other awesome software like WordPress and Drupal. In this article, we are going to compare Joomla with WordPress to find out their pros and cons. We are comparing in terms of some aspects, as shown below:

Ease of Use and Beginner Friendliness

Joomla

Joomla installation is not said to be as quick as WordPress. Although it has almost similar steps for the installation and many shared hosting providers give one-click install support for it.

The back-end user interface (Joomla Control Panel) is not as straight forward as WordPress. There are too many menus, tabs, and fields to customize the web site because Joomla is a lot more powerful than Wordpress. But, it is a little bit harder to understand for the beginners.

WordPress

WordPress provides a quick and easy installation, which is quite easier for new users to start working on WordPress in a few minutes. The post-install user interface of WordPress is also easy to understand and way better than Joomla or any other CMS. The users get a simple, clean user interface with few menus to start creating articles, pages, or start customizing appearance and themes.

Themes and Plugins

Joomla

Joomla comes with handy templates and extensions. There are extensions to perform almost all the tasks from creating an e-commerce store to managing email. However, the number of templates and extensions is not as high as WordPress, which can make searching for suitable extensions a bit difficult.

Apart from that, Joomla does not include the inbuilt option to search and install the templates directly from the administration area. Users are required to search the templates on the web and install them manually by adding their URL or by uploading them via extension manager.

WordPress

WordPress provides an option for changing the appearance using themes. It comes with a few pre-installed themes that you can use easily on the site. There are several third-party developers who provide many premium WordPress themes.

Plugins are the most important options available with WordPress. There is a huge number of free plugins available in the official WordPress plugin directory. You also have an option to purchase premium plugins from third-party developers.

Support & Development Options

Joomla

Joomla provides a beneficial community that helps to communicate with other Joomla users and developers. You can join the community, blogs, forums, etc. directly from the official Joomla web site. Joomla has attached the extensive documentation on the website for beginners, which is quite valuable to understand the concepts. There is also an option to learn Joomla from the third party resources, paid training, or development agencies.

Apart from that, it may be a little challenging to find a developer or an expert for Joomla development. Its maintenance, assistance, and troubleshooting may cost more than WordPress.

WordPress

On the other side, WordPress has strong community support for users. You will find support for WordPress on almost every forum or site on the internet, which is about web design and development.

Apart from the free support, you can easily find the WordPress professional or developer at a very reasonable price.

Localization & Multi-Lingual Support

Joomla

Joomla provides multilingual support with its core features. You are not required to install any third-party extension. You can easily change the content language and start creating multilingual content using the language manager. You can also install many languages for the admin interface directly from the admin area.

WordPress

Just like Joomla, you can also build a multilingual website using WordPress, but you have to install WordPress plugins to use this feature. WordPress does not include this feature in its core features, so it does not allow you to add multilingual content on your site out of the box.

Security

Joomla

When it comes to security, Joomla actively responds to any security vulnerability. Joomla takes a very serious approach to security and acts quickly to patch it up. However, managing a Joomla site or installing updates is still up to the user.

WordPress

WordPress is said to be the most popular CMS in the world, and so the websites based on it are often targeted by hackers. It has an auto-update mechanism that helps WordPress website to update itself when there is a new security patch. There is also a built-in mechanism that displays updates for WordPress themes and plugins.

Apart from it, WordPress also offers automated backups, two-factor authentication, and some other security features.
